Public Art Partnerships

LARAMIE Public Art Coalition

The Laramie Public Art Coalition (LPAC) is a consortium of partners, who have, with the support of our funders established a blueprint for incorporating public art into Laramie and Albany County.  LPAC does not pick art, but exists to facilitate those who want to engage in a public art project.  The Laramie Public Art Plan, which is LPAC’s guiding document, was adopted by Laramie’s City Council in September 2015. LPAC is an organization independent of the city, county and university.

Visit the Laramie Public Art Coalition for more info.

LPAC is comprised of representatives from Albany County CommissionLaramie City Council, Laramie Beautification Committee, Laramie Chamber Business AllianceLaramie Main Street AssociationLaramie Parks and Recreation Department, and the University of Wyoming Art Museum

Laramie Mural Project

In 2011, the University of Wyoming Art Museum partnered with the Laramie Main Street Alliance in an effort to bring public art into historic downtown Laramie.  Working with local artists and businesses, three murals were realized:  Talal Cockar, Tierra y Libertad, First Street between University and Ivinson Streets; Meghan Meier, Grainery Grove, former Whole Earth Grainery alleyway north of Ivinson Street; and Travis Ivey, Hollyhock Haven, public parking lot between First and Second Streets.

Each year since 2011, the Mural Project has worked with local businesses to beautify and diversify Laramie. Audio and walking tours, and school curriculum have been developed as interpretation guides.

Visit the Laramie Mural Project for more info.

The Laramie Mural Project is funded in part by the Guthrie Family Foundation, Laramie Beautification Committee, City of Laramie, and the Wyoming Arts Council.

Sans façon Public Art Project for Laramie

Sans façon is an art practice that responds to the relationship between people and place.

The internationally renowned Sans façon (Tristan Surtees and Charles Blanc) began a preliminary research project about Laramie following their first visit to the University of Wyoming in the Fall 2015. Their interest in Laramie, Wyoming was inspired in part by the unique community-university partnership that invited them to visit Laramie originally, and, after spending some time here, by the people in the community and its history. As a result, an interdisciplinary group of UW faculty and administrators along with community leaders have pursued a larger, multi-year, research project with Sans façon.

Surtees and Blanc will return to Laramie for continued research and community interactions. Their project will culminate in a community-based event, followed by the potential for a large-scale public art project in the future.
