The John P. Ellbogen $30K Entrepreneurship Competition at the University of Wyoming (UW) is designed to encourage students in the UW community to act on their talents, ideas, and energy to produce tomorrow's leading businesses. The $30K Competition awards cash prizes to outstanding teams of student entrepreneurs who submit their business plans for new ventures showing significant business potential. The competition encourages teams to act on their dreams and build plans for their own companies and fortunes through a network of students, mentors, investors, and potential partners.
Students from all colleges at UW at the undergraduate and graduate levels are welcome to enter the competition. Multi-disciplinary teams that combine members from many disciplines are encouraged, as these teams bring together the variety of skills required for a successful venture.
The University of Wyoming College of Business hosts a free all-day event for current and potential entrepreneurs from UW and our surrounding communities. The day is broken up into sessions so that guests can attend the portions they are able to and interested in. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included. RSVP is required though.
$30K Competition finalists pitch their ideas, panelists speak about the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, keynote speakers talk about innovation, and networking opportunities allow entrepreneurs to connect with investors. President Nichols and Governor Mead will provide opening and closing remarks respectively.
The event will be recorded and a link will be provided on this website the day of the competition only to encourage community members and alumni that cannot attend to participate in the day. Guest are encouraged to use texting and online platforms to vote for their favorite student team pitches and ask questions throughout the day.
