Congratulations CNP Graduates!
Two adult classes were held on the EWC Campus that wrapped up this past fall. Both classes were amazed with their field trip to the grocery store. Most of the participants never really have had the time to look at the foods they were buying, so they enjoyed being able to view the nutrition facts and do a cost comparison on fresh, canned and frozen fruits and vegetables. The participants had so much fun, one graduate said:
"I've had so much fun in the classes, I hate for them to end!"
Learning about healthier food options and saving money, two graduates made similar statements in regards to drinking soda:
-
“I have so much more energy and have started saving money on groceries because I stopped drinking soda and now I drink water.”
-
"Once I learned how much sugar is in a can of soda I started drinking water more often, saved lots of money and lost 17 pounds."

Youth classes are a big hit!
Denise taught Happy Healthy Me to kindergarten and 1st grade at Lingle Elementary school, where one parent jokingly told Denise "I'm not letting my son attend any more Happy Healthy Me nutrition classes. Last week we had to buy whole grains and now he wants me to buy mangoes!" because of what her son learned!
Marty, our friendly Moose, took the 2nd & 3rd graders through MyPlate where the discovered healthy choices and learned about the food groups.
Denise took the 4th graders back in history, as they discovered what people during the 19th century ate. They got to sample similar foods like Pemmican (shredded jerky and wild berries) and Calcannon (Irish Potatoes). One thing they learned is that we have more fruits and vegetable available today!
The 5th graders learned how much an actual serving size is and the importance of calcium in their diets, especially now as they may be hitting some growth spurts!
Yogurt Parfaits?
The high school students were really amazed that a healthy treat can also be very delicious. They were surprised to learn how much sugar is in some of their favorite beverages and learned how to read and interpret food labels!
