WICHE, WWAMI, WYDENT

There are two parts to the admissions process:

1. Have your residency certified no later than October 15 of the year prior to your anticipated start date in professional school. This is your eligibility to participate in the program.

2. Apply for admission to the school(s) of your choice through their required application process. Schools make ALL admissions decisions.

While these two parts are completed in the same time frame, they are not linked and you can do either one before the other.

APPLY EARLY!

We recommend that you establish and maintain a separate email account for this and all of your applications. List all of your schools and certoff@uwyo.edu as safe senders. Be sure to check your junk or spam files regularly.

 

WICHE

The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) is a consortium of fifteen Western US states established to provide educational opportunities for students in the West.

WICHE’s Professional Student Exchange Program (PSEP) allows certified Wyoming residents to enroll in certain out-of-state professional programs in allopathic medicine, dentistry, osteopathic medicine, podiatry, occupational therapy, optometry, physical therapy, physician assistant, or veterinary medicine. Wyoming applicants or their spouses must be legal residents for one year immediately prior to matriculation to professional school. Support is competitive, and not everyone will receive it. If a professional school admits a student and offers financial support, the student pays reduced tuition based on the costs at the attending institution. The State of Wyoming pays a support fee to the admitting school for educational services. The length of support varies according to each professional program.

WICHE’s Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) allows WICHE-region students to enroll in 900+ select graduate programs at  60+ participating Western public universities and pay up to 150 percent of resident tuition instead of nonresident rates.

WWAMI

The University of Wyoming participates in WWAMI, a regional medical education program with the University of Washington School of Medicine. The program annually reserves seats for up to twenty qualified Wyoming residents. For information about the program, please see the Wyoming WWAMI website. Applicants or their parents must be legal residents for five continuous years immediately prior to attending medical school. Participants make a contract payment to the University of Wyoming for the four years of medical school and the state pays the educational costs to the University of Washington for each student.

WWAMI is the primary means of access for allopathic medical education in Wyoming. Applicants are encouraged to apply to the WWAMI program to study allopathic medicine and to the WICHE PSEP program for osteopathic medicine and allopathic medicine.

WYDENT

This is a dental education contract program for certified Wyoming residents with the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry (Lincoln, NE) and Creighton University School of Dentistry (Omaha, NE). Each school reserves seats for up to two qualified Wyoming residents. Applicants or their parents must be legal residents for five continuous years immediately prior to attending dental school. Participants make a contract payment to the University of Wyoming for the four years of dental school, and the state of Wyoming pays the educational costs to the appropriate dental school for each student.

Although WYDENT is a great program for two different dental schools, we invite applicants to certify their Wyoming residence both for the WYDENT program and for the WICHE PSEP program.

PLEASE NOTE: Creighton and the University of Nebraska have offered all WYDENT seats on, or shortly after, December 1st for the last few years.  Students choosing to submit their application after early September, or not following up quickly on any issues with their applications, may not receive full consideration.

RESIDENCY APPLICATION

The application for students planning to enter professional school in 2025 will open no later than June 1, 2024 and is due by Oct. 15th, 2024. We are accepting applications for WICHE PSEP alternate certification for students entering professional school in 2024. Alternate certification indicates you will receive lower consideration for contract offers, but might still be funded depending upon legislative appropriations. If you are interested in alternate certification for WICHE PSEP entering 2024, we would encourage you to contact the certification office to discuss your situation.
