Meet Our Faculty


Lisa Brandes, M.D

Lisa Brandes, M.D. - Physician Faculty Member
Doctor Brandes is a Clinical Assistant Professor and advisor for residents and medical students and serves as an Assistant Team Leader. She also sees patients in the Family Medicine Clinic. Upon completion of her BS degree from Kansas State University, Doctor Brandes attended Medical School at the University of Kansas and completed her residency at Wesley Family Medicine Residency in Wichita, KS. Her career spanned a variety of medical endeavors before joining the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program in Cheyenne. She was in private practice in Wichita for seven years during which time she served as a volunteer faculty, teaching medical students and residents. While in Wichita, she served as a Medical Director of a weight loss clinic that stressed life style change and health maintenance, which allowed her to pursue her interest in preventative care. She also worked as an Emergency Medicine Physician in rural Kansas. Doctor Brandes' spare time is spent with her husband and three boys.

Kimberly Broomfield  Kimberly Broomfield,M.D. - Medical Director                                                              Doctor Broomfield joined the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program in August, 2009. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor and serves as the Medical Director at the Family Medicine Center.  She will be responsible for the operation of the clinical practice and providing day-to-day teaching for the residents and medical students.  She was previously in private practice here in Wyoming and more recently, was on the medical staff at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cheyenne.  Doctor Broomfield is a graduate of the University of Wyoming with a BS in Medical Technology and a BA in Biochemistry.  She attended the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, CO for medical school.  Her residency was completed at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.  Her professional interest include the special care of children that have been allegedly abused and serves on the Child Major Injury and Fatality Review Team.  She enjoys spending time with her little family and their dogs and watching football.  She is active with Cub Scouts, PTO, and volunteers at the YMCA as a youth coach.

 Sheri Fluellen, Psy.D.
Doctor Fluellen is a licensed psychologist, who supports the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne, by providing teaching related to mental health and behavioral medicine.  She earned a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family therapy from Sioux Falls Seminary, SD., and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Psychology from Oklahoma State University.  She completed her residency at Malcolm Grow Medical Center, Andrews Air Force Base, MD as an active duty Air Force psychologist.  She came to Cheyenne when she was transferred to FE Warren AFB.  She separated from active duty in 2010 but loved Cheyenne so much that she and her family chose to make their residence permanent.  Currently, Doctor Fluellen does recurring contract work with the Home-Based Primary Care Program through the VA Medical Center, but the majority of her clinical work is carried out through her mental health practice.

John Healey, M.D. 

John P. Healey, M.D. - Physician Faculty Member
Doctor Healey came to Cheyenne (his birth city) as a resident, at the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program in 1991.  He has worked in multiple communities across Wyoming since that time.  Being lured back to Cheyenne to do urgent and emergent care, he became reaquainted with the Residency Program.  He is a University of Wyoming graduate with a BS in Zoology and Nursing.  Skiing took him to the University of Utah for a MS in Nursing as a Nurse Practioner, which lead to Emergency Care and teaching in Utah.  He went to Creighton University in Omaha, NE for medical school before returning to Wyoming.  He enjoys rural Wyoming, rural medicine and skiing.

Ronald L. Malm, DO

Ronald L. Malm, D.O. - Program Director
Doctor Malm is a Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine and serves as the Program Director at the Family Medicine Center. He shares responsibility for the operation of the clinical practice and provides day-to-day teaching for the residents and medical students. Doctor Malm is a graduate of The University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine (Kansas City, Missouri). He completed a rotating internship at Grandview Hospital and Medical Center (Ohio) and his residency at the Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency (Kansas). He was in private practice in Cheyenne for four years prior to joining the faculty in 1999. Doctor Malm was a part-time volunteer faculty at the Program prior to joining the faculty full time. His professional interests include pediatrics and wellness care. In addition he provides instruction in OMT to the residents. In his off-hours, he enjoys fishing, hiking and mountain biking.

Myran 

 Leena Myran, Pharm.D.

Doctor Myran is a Clinical Assistant Professor of the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program and the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy.  She is a graduate of the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy.  She completed her post-graduate residency training at the Billings Clinic hospital in billings, Montana.  Her clinical and research interest areas include infectious diseases and critical care.  In her spare time she enjoys cooking and spending time with her family.

 

Pamela Oiler

Pamela Oiler, LCSW
Pamela Oiler is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Assistant Lecturer at the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program in Cheyenne. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Social Work degree from Colorado State University. Pamela has been a Social Services Director in long-term care, and prior to joining the faculty, was at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, providing discharge planning and case management services to patients/families on in-patient units. She also worked extensively on establishing and providing social work services in the Emergency Department at CRMC. She holds professional membership to the National Association of Social Workers. Pamela enjoys playing the piano, cooking, camping, hiking, skiing, and speaks French.

Douglas S. Parks, MD

Douglas S. Parks, M.D. - Physician Faculty Member                                                                    Doctor Parks is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine. He also provides day-to-day teaching for the residents and medical students. Doctor Parks, a graduate of the University of Kansas Medical School and the Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency (Kansas), was in private practice in rural western Kansas for seven years. Doctor Parks has completed a faculty development fellowship with the University of Washington Family Medicine Residency Network. He has a special interest in the skills needed by physicians practicing in rural areas as well as innovative ways to recruit and retain physicians for rural practice. Doctor Parks is a past President of the Wyoming Academy of Family Physicians. He currently is serving on the Chapter Affairs Committee of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He enjoys hiking, hunting and music with his wife and daughters.

Schmitz 

G. Douglas Schmitz, M.D. - Physician Adjunct Faculty Member                                                 Doctor Schmitz is a General Surgeon , who serves as part-time faculty for the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne after being in private practice in a rural setting since 1984. He provides day-to-day teaching of the Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students involving in-patient and out-patient general surgery and endoscopic procedures. Doctor Schmitz is also the Trauma Coordinator for the State of Wyoming. After graduating from the University of Nebraska Medical School he completed his Surgery Residency and Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Creighton University. Doctor Schmitz was named University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Program at Cheyenne Teacher of the Year in 1997,2003, 2011 and 2014. His interest outside of medicine include his family , flying his private airplane, and fishing in Alaska.
