  • Note: The online application allows you to upload unofficial transcripts.  These can be used for application review and will save you time/money requesting official transcripts prior to the application deadline.  However, in the event that you are accepted to the program, the University of Wyoming will require all official transcripts be on file before you will be fully admitted.

Step 3

Submit the following materials to the online application.

  • Statement of Purpose of approximately 500 words explaining why you wish to undertake graduate study in creative writing. (Be sure to discuss the kind of creative work or project you intend to pursue within the program.)

  • Writing Sample representing your area of concentration. For prose, you may submit a maximum of 25 pages, numbered, typed, double-spaced. If you work in more than one area of primary concentration or a hybrid genre, please see our FAQs and contact us if you have further questions.

  • Curriculum Vitae

  • NOTE: Please upload all supplemental materials to the main UW online application portal.  The screen for doing so will be available after you pay the application fee.  You may email items to cw@uwyo.edu only if you encounter technical difficulties with UW's online system.

Step 4

Three letters of recommendation must be provided.  The main UW online application portal linked above allows you to submit three names and email addresses for recommendations. The person will then receive an automated request to upload a letter for you.

If your reference is uncomfortable with automated request systems, or does not receive the request due to spam filters, have him or her email the letter directly to cw@uwyo.edu or mail it to the MFA office:
