Safe Zone

Safe Zone is a program geared towards creating an inclusive environment for the LGBTQIA+ community at the University of Wyoming and in the Laramie community. Through the completion of training sessions and workshops, we aim to educate individuals on issues related to the LGBTQIA+ community and provide the tools for participants to become active allies. Safe Zone also offers a variety of special topic sessions that cover everything from immigration to healthcare and the intersections of these themes in the lives of LGBTQIA+ people. After the completion of all three Safe Zone workshops, participants will not only understand some basic terms and concepts related to LGBTQIA+ experiences, but will also have the tools to be a visible ally to members of the community. Since all three sessions cover different topics, attending only two workshops is not sufficient for certification purposes. The completion of training also comes with a certificate, to be hung or displayed in an office or place of work, that indicates to a member of the LGBTQIA+ community that this area is a safe zone.
