John P. Ellbogen Summer Faculty Institute: Designing Your First-Year Seminar

Do you have a passion for unlocking inquisitive minds? Do you love challenging, inspiring, and interacting with first-year students through active learning? If so, the 2014 John P. Ellbogen Summer Institute is for you.
These workshops will provide an introduction to the philosophy, research, and best practices that support the significance of the First-Year Seminar. You will receive assistance and concentrated time to design your new course. Additionally, we will guide you through the course approval process. Successful applicants will be awarded a $1000 summer stipend to be paid in June 2014.

ECTL Mini-Grant:USP 2015 Communication Courses

USP 2015 requires a substantial update to developing students' communication skills.  In place of separate "writing intensive" and "oral communication" courses, the new COM2 and COM3 designations promote a focus on the broad variety of communication knowledge and skills that can help students be successful in academic, disciplinary, and professional settings. The ECTL is sponsoring up to twelve $500 mini-grants to support and encourage development of these communication courses.

ECTL Teaching/Professional Development Grants

The Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning has a limited amount of discretionary funds available for instructors who are interested in furthering their professional development as it relates to teaching and learning. Potential uses of these funds might include attending or presenting at teaching conferences or workshops, and/or purchase of materials that enhance instruction. Service Learning Mini-Grant Awards

The Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement (SLCE) Office is proud to support faculty initiatives to increase service opportunities for students. SLCE is pleased to announce the availability of Service-Learning Mini-Grant Awards.  These grants, typically between $250 and $750, are available to fund the implementation of new service-learning projects or the improvement of established projects in existing courses.  Grants will be awarded to faculty on a competitive basis according to the selection criteria.

The Service-Learning Mini-Grants seek to encourage opportunities for active student experiences that enhance classroom learning through addressing community needs.

Assessment Academy Conference Travel Grants: 2013-2014

The Office of Academic Affairs and the Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning is pleased to offer several competitive mini-grants (individual or group) to support attendance at training and professional development conferences in assessment of student learning. By attending national workshops/conferences in this field, you will be able increase your skills and knowledge in one of the following areas

  •  development and application of the principles and best practices of assessment of student learning outcomes in your course or program
  •  design or revision of a course on the First Year Seminar, and the subsequent assessment of its effectiveness at achieving your desired goals
  •  presentation of your work on assessment of student learning outcomes at your professional society

American Heritage Center Teaching and Research Grants

The American Heritage Center supports the University of Wyoming's charge of teaching, research, public service, and cultural outreach by enabling and promoting the study and interpretation of our nation's history. This grants program offers an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to pursue projects such as independent or collaborative research projects, course development, and symposia that use AHC's resource material as the basis of the project/course/symposia.
