The Strategic Diversity Initiatives Committee (SDIC) would like to welcome you! The committee was established in 2009 by President Tom Buchanan in order to continue the University's history and commitment to increasing the diversity of its faculty, staff, and students. The University acknowledges that in the 21st Century we must begin to think about the bigger picture in terms of our diversity efforts and dedicate resources to initiatives that can make a real difference.
SDIC's activities are driven by the Diversity section (pages 13-15) of the University Plan 3 (UP3) - all efforts will revolve around the goals and objectives established there. An enthusiastic working group, the committee seeks to develop clear strategies related to diversity and act in ways that have a real impact on our campus and communities. SDIC recognizes that diversity efforts at UW cannot ignore our connection to Laramie and the State of Wyoming, and is dedicated to enriching and enhancing those relationships.
SDIC is by no means the sole guardian of diversity at UW; diversity is the responsibility of everyone. There are a host of programs, departments, and individuals doing great work at UW, and SDIC has every intention of supporting these efforts. We realize that input, guidance, and assistance will be needed from the entire campus and the greater community. As the committee continues to develop and move forward on initiatives, it will partner with key colleagues to ensure success. In the meantime, we encourage you to contact us via email or phone if you have suggestions, opportunities, or concerns.
For more information, please contact SDIC Chair Nell Russell (nell@uwyo.edu) in the Office of Diversity and Employment Practices (766-3459).
