The Department of Economics at the University of Wyoming has a long tradition of excellence in the area of applied microeconomics. We are best known in the area of environmental economics, where the department currently ranks in the top 2% of all ENR programs worldwide. We also rank in the top 5% of all natural resource economics and agricultural economics programs. Although ENR economics is our main focus, we also have expertise in the areas of energy economics, industrial organization, and behavioral economics. The department also ranks #8 out of 222 U.S. economics departments in terms of articles per faculty member.
The University of Wyoming is located in Laramie, a small college town in the southeast corner of the state. Laramie sits at 7,200 feet in elevation on the high plains of Wyoming with a wide variety of outdoor amenities. The Snowy Mountain range is just 30 minutes to the west of Laramie and provides a wide range of outdoor opportunities such as skiing, hiking, and wildlife viewing.
Our department currently has 15 full-time faculty, 32 graduate students, and over 120 undergraduate students. We pride ourselves on providing a personalized but rigorous training to our students. Many of our graduates have gone on to have successful and rewarding careers in industry, government and academia.
