The University of Wyoming College of Education…

  • Established in 1914
  • Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education/Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation continuously since 1954
  • Provides 1:1 advising, academic success programs, note and test taking help, support for state licensure processes
  • Collaborates with the UW Center for Advising and Career Services to provide two career fairs each year
  • Distributes more than $225,000 in scholarships awarded each year
  • Enrolls more than 1100 undergraduate students and 500 graduate students (Spring 2011)
  • Requires specific methods coursework for Literacy, Math & Science, and Humanities for Elementary Education majors 
  • Requires significant discipline-specific coursework for Secondary Education majors complete, in some cases designating a second full major on transcripts
  • Offers many undergraduate and graduate courses online through the Outreach School, including entire graduate degrees
  • Offers multiple opportunities to engage in field experiences, practica, and student teaching in a wide variety of both rural and urban school contexts
  • Requires a full semester of full-time student teaching under the supervision of a highly qualified mentor teacher
  • Reports pass rates for the state-required licensure tests above 85%
  • Participated in the Education Teacher Performance Assessment (EdTPA) pilot program
  • Places 25-30 student teachers in Campbell County School District #1 (Gillette)
  • Participates in 16 school district partnerships throughout Wyoming
  • Offers a graduate minor in Research Methods
  • Hosts the Sullivan Family Student Center, a facility that includes state of the art education classrooms in a remodeled building that was recently featured in Interior Design Journal
  • Hosts the UW Literacy Research Center and Clinic on the ground floor of the Education Annex building
  • Employs 64 full-time faculty members, 3 full-time administrators, 1 full-time director, and 19 full-time support staff in the College

The University of Wyoming is located in Laramie, Wyoming, approximately two hours north of Denver, CO and has a population of 31,681. Laramie sits at 7,220 feet above sea level, making the university one of the highest university campuses. The university offers degrees in more than 190 areas of study, has an average undergraduate class size of 29 students, and is home to more than 200 recognized student organizations.
