Freshmen Interest Groups

Applying to FIGs is Easy!

You can submit your FIGs application in one of two ways:

1. After completing the "What FIG is right for me?" Quiz

What FIG is right for me? This quiz offers questions that ensure you are eligible for the FIG you select.

2. When completing your online Residence Life & Dining application

Simply select which FIG you'd like to join and your FIG application will be emailed to the FIGs Coordinator.

FIG Program Privileges and Responsibilities

Acceptance into a UW FIG entitles you to early enrollment in the FIG courses, access to special study groups and tutorials, and a range of cultural and recreational activities designed to make your first-year experience at the University of Wyoming especially purposeful and educational.

In return, FIG participants are responsible for not removing any courses associated with the FIG. Students are encouraged to place a high priority on academic pursuits and make good use of the special opportunities and services available to them. Participants will be responsible for creating and maintaining an environment in classes and the residence hall that supports the purposes of the program.

Notes:

  1. If you don't see the FIG you wanted, that means it is at capacity and no longer available.

  2. Placement in a FIG is not guaranteed. FIGs are filled on a first come, first served basis.
  3. If you are accepted into a Freshmen Interest Group (they do fill up fast!), you will be placed in the residence hall area assigned to that FIG. Freshmen Interest Group acceptance will be given priority over other living plan choices marked on your housing contract. You must return your Residence Hall and Food Service Contract and deposit before you can be enrolled in a FIG, so be sure to mail it and your FIG application together.

  4. Assignments to a FIG and FIG housing will be made on a date-priority basis, depending on when UW receives your applications. It's important to send your application as soon as possible, and at the same time you return your housing contract.

  5. The deadline for all Fall 2020 FIG applications is mid-May. Students will be notified of their acceptance as applications are received.

  6. Placement in a FIG is not guaranteed, and students will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis

  7. FIGS and New Student Orientation - You are encouraged to attend one of the New Student Orientation sessions in order to complete your registration for fall semester classes. You'll also have the opportunity to meet other first-year students, get acquainted with UW faculty and staff, and learn about many aspects of your new life. There are sessions for your parents, too. For information on New Student Orientation, contact: Admissions Office, P.O. Box 3435, University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY 82071-3435, (307) 766-5160 in Laramie or 1-(800) 342-5996 outside of Laramie.
