First-Generation College Student Celebration Day

November 8th is National First-Generation College Student Celebration Day. UW is proud to recognize and celebrate our first-generation students.

2022 Events

Events open to all students:

First-Gen Book Display

Throughout November, there will be a book display featuring first-generation authors and themes. This collection will be on the main floor of Coe Library. Swing by and check them out! 

Union Breezeway Tables with Flyers and Swag (Nov. 7-11)

In the Union Breezeway, Student Support Services, the McNair Program, ACES, Tri-Alpha First-Gen Student Honors Society, and LeaRN will have tables set up with information, swag, and t-shirts for first-gen students. These tables will be staffed at least from 11:00am-1:00pm throughout the week. 

"Why I'm First" Campaign (Nov. 7-11)

At the LeaRN Table in the Union Breezeway, first-gen students, faculty, and staff are invited to write up quick notes of encouragement and pride to the first-gen community. We expect this wall of letters of fill up quickly, so come share your experience and knowledge! 

Speed Mentoring for First-Gen Students, (Nov. 8)

From 9:00am-4:30pm on November 8th in the Union Breezeway, we're offering quick, low-stakes mentorship for first-gen students from first-gen faculty, support staff, and advanced students!

Recognition for First-Gen Students Across Campus:

• College of Business Students

  • First-Generation Community Lunch- Join us in the Green Johnson Student Success Center for a lunch on November 8^th, between noon and 1pm. Please RSVP to success@uwyo.edu so we order enough food.
  • First-Generation Student Swag Giveaway!- Inside the Green Johnson Center!
    • All day on November 8^th, stop into our center (in the career services area) to grab some COB swag!
  • Watch our socials and your email for “COB First-Gen Highlights” in our Monday Message
