Why should I consider joining a Fraternity/Sorority - What will it do for me?
Rather than give you some John F. Kennedy, "Ask not what your country can do...," we'll give you something that will matter more to you during your decision process.
Fraternity/Sorority life is special for many reasons, and though the best way to understand it is to be Greek yourself, these reasons best summarize the nature behind the Greek community's excellence.
Leadership is Emphasized
Fraternity/Sorority chapters offer interior leadership positions, but also strongly encourage, and in some cases, require other leadership activity on campus/in the community.
Social Interaction is Fostered
Through the social activity schedules, and philanthropic activities undertaken by Greek chapters, members learn to interact easily with others, and let their True selves emerge. By encouraging the development of self, while nurturing individuals towards an exterior orientation, the Greek community helps its members come out of their shells in ways not possible in other organizations.
Connections are Made
Not only do members of Greek organizations develop life-long friendships with their fellow Greeks, they also, through advanced alumni groups, have the opportunity to reach out for help from willing and able alums who have already distinguished themselves in life. Whether seeking careers, financial support, or advice, alumni of Greek chapters understand and support their fellow brothers and sisters wholeheartedly - no matter the age.
Personal Growth is Expected
Every member that joins a fraternity or a sorority is expected to do everything
in their power to maximize and extend their potential while at college. During
this time, Greek organizations invest much into ensuring their members are
successful on campus, off campus, and in life after graduation. From social
support, to academic support, to other, these members are given the backing
they need to meet their own expectations, and extend them even further.
College is More Fun
Since the support, friendships, outside opportunities, and connections are present, Greek members often enjoy themselves more during their time in college. This enjoyment has an intangible effect, however, one can easily compare this effect to having to mow the lawn in a good mood versus a bad one. Greek students simply get more out of the experience, and cherish it for longer than do non-Greeks.
Though clearly not a complete explanation, this summary should give you a clear understanding of some of the reasons being Greek can make you a better person, and extend your life opportunities.
So, now understanding how it can help you, how will you make a difference once you've come to the table?
