Below is an ordered employee life cycle. Please select the tile that most applies to you and it will lead you to instructions for both the employee and department.

  • Pre-Hire


    The Pre-Hire Toolkit contains all of the steps departments need to complete before they can start the hiring process. These include:

    • Figure things out early

    • Identifying need for a new position

    • Position Description Questionnaires

  • Requisition


    The Requisition Toolkit contains all of the steps needed to complete the actual hire. These include, but are not limited to:

    • How the candidate can apply

    • How the candidate accepts the offer

    • How the department creates a requisition

    • How to conduct the hiring process

    • What needs to be communicated to HR

  • Do Immediately


    The Do Immediately Toolkit contains the instructions for all of the things that you need to do IMMEDIATELY after the hire. These should be done as soon as possible and include:

    • Completing the I9

    • Completing all required training

    • Attending New Hire Orientation (NEO)

    • Signing up for Benefits

    • Supervisory Trainings

  • Time and Absences


    The Time and Absences Toolkit lists all of the steps that need to be done on time in order to get paid. These steps include:

    • How to report your time and absences

    • How supervisors approve time

    • Supervisor responsibilities

    • How to use Time Clock Plus (TCP)

    • The deadlines for all of these requirements

  • After you are Hired


    The After you are Hired Toolkit lists tasks that do not need to be done immediately after hire but should be done preferably within the month. Such tasks include:

    • Know how to review your paycheck

    • Know how to update personal details

    • Know how to view your leave balances

    • Flexible work agreement

    • Read the employee handbook

  • Benefits


    The Benefits Toolkit houses instructions on all things benefits. Including but not limited to:

    • Changes to insurance (marriage, birth, etc.)

    • Qualifying events

    • Employee Death

    • Family Medical Leave (FMLA)

    • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

    • Workers Compensation

    • The Employee Assistance Program

    • Unemployment

  • Payroll


    In the Payroll Toolkit you will find instructions on everything to do with Payroll. Including:

    • Add/Change Direct Deposit

    • W-2 Electronic Delivery Preferences

    • Accessing your W-2

    • Updating your W-4

    • Voluntary Deductions

    • Awarding Additional Compensation

    • Costing (funding)

  • Questions about Leave


    In the Questions About Leave Toolkit you will find a comprehensive list of all the many different types of leave provided by the University and a brief description of each kind. Such leave includes:

    • Compensatory Time (Comp Time)

    • Family Medical Leave (FMLA)

    • Leave Without Pay (LWOP)

    The Changes in your Position Toolkit houses instructions for changes that may occur in positions. Such include but are not limited too:

    The Performance Management Toolkit provides instructions to manage your or your employees performance. Highlights include:

    The Conflict and Dispute Resolution Toolkit provides instructions on resolving problems and conflicts in the workplace before the escalate to a disruption. This includes:

    The Corrective and Disciplinary Actions Toolkit directs you to the appropriate resources to handle issues that may arouse in your department.
