ASSISTANT UNIVERSITY EXTENSION EDUCATOR - #1282

Assistant University Extension Educator, extended term track; Nutrition and Food Safety. At the discretion of the employee, this position will be based in either Sublette County, Pinedale, Wyoming or Teton County, Jackson, WY. Position #1282. Level &; Salary: subject to annual reappointment and contingent upon availability of funds. Actual salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Location Description: THis is an area position covering Uinta, Sweetwater, Sublette, Teton, and Lincoln counties - the West Extension area. The area encompasses the highest quality of scenery and recreation, coupled to a small town lifestyle with a cosmopolitan flair.

Nature and Purpose: This position provides research-based information in nutrition, health and food safety education to adult and youth audiences; and, assists Wyoming citizens in making wise nutrition and health decisions and safe food-handling practices.

Primary Clientele Served by this Position: Community members, health care providers, nutrition professionals, youth and adult audiences including 4-H youth programs, food service personnel and professionals working in food safety.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties: The individual in this position will serve as a representative of the University of Wyoming (UW) and foster a productive relationship with elected officials and other stakeholders in western Wyoming. Primary duties include but are not limited to: 1) providing educational programming in the nutrition and food safety initiative in a five-county area (Teton, Sublette, Lincoln, Uinta, Sweetwater Counties) in collaboration with other area NFS educators; 2) plan and implement applied research activities in collaboration with community partners, UW Extension specialists and other faculty members; 3) provide expertise to the 4-H Youth Development program; 4) work as a team member with the entire county staff to provide innovative educational opportunities in all Extension program areas; 5) cooperate with other agencies and organizations; 6) use available media to educate the public and to publicize programs and activities; and (7) support general County Extension operations. Note: A valid driver's license and serviceable vehicle is a requirement of the position. Also, work involves overnight travel, evening, and weekend work. Assignment includes travel and work in remote areas of western Wyoming.

Qualifications – Required

* A master's degree from an accredited college or university, or a bachelor's degree plus registered dietetics certification. One degree must have been awarded in nutrition, food science, dietetics, family and consumer sciences education, health science or cognate field clearly and specifically related to the Extension function.

* Expertise to develop and provide educational programming in nutrition and food safety

*Training and/or experience teaching adults and youth.

* Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Evidence of this ability should be documented through application materials and experience.

*Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision.

*Ability to travel and valid driver's license.

Qualifications – Preferred

*Experience in planning and implementing applied research activities

* Experience in working with diverse audiences in the area of nutrition and food safety.

*Knowledge of Cooperative Extension and the land-grant university system.

*Knowledge of and appreciation for rural and agricultural communities.

*Prior Extension experience.

Approximate Time Distribution

Nutrition and Food Safety 85%

Support of 4-H Youth Development programs 15%
