College of Health Sciences
CHS Interprofessional Education
This is an exciting time for the College of Health Sciences! During the past few years we have been working collaboratively, across the College, to bring unique interprofessional education (IPE) experiences to students--to introduce them to and give them valuable IPE experiences which occur when learners from two or more professions learn with, from and about each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes (WHO definition, 2010). We have formed, and continue to form, IPE Faculty Teams involving two or more degree programs in our College to develop, implement and assess IPE assignments and face-to-face events. Our IPE Committee representing all of the College is working each year to provide additional learning opportunities outside of the classroom, bringing in alumni and professionals from the Wyoming community, including the CHS Distinguished Alumni Interprofessional Panel and our spring co-curricular event. These are bringing students and faculty from our different degree programs together to learn about and discuss their roles and responsibilities within the context of mutually relevant patient cases and topics of shared importance, including prescription opioid abuse, end-of-life care and leadership in healthcare.
As a college at a land grant institution that brings together multiple health sciences and education-based disciplines, we are in a unique position to make a real difference among our graduates and the future citizens of Wyoming they will serve. Our degree programs are richly varied and our faculty truly care about student learning.
Whether you’re a current or future student, an alumnus, a practicing professional in Wyoming or a visitor to our College, we invite you to reach out to learn more about the expanding interprofessional opportunities at the UW College of Health Sciences. On behalf of our IPE Faculty Teams and our Interprofessional Education Committee representing all of the College.
