2011 Wyoming StarTalk
Find out more about the 2011 Wyoming High School StarTalk Arabic Institute here.
A language of ancient traditions and modern movements – Arabic is spoken across the Middle East and North Africa and by nearly 300 million people worldwide.
This June, you can become one of them by gaining a foundation in Modern Standard Arabic at the 2011 Wyoming High School StarTalk Arabic Institute on the University of Wyoming campus in Laramie!
The “Sounds and Strings of Arabia” is a two-week residential language program that introduces students to Arabic language and the cultures of Arabic speakers through encounters with Arabic music.
The program uses traditional and contemporary songs to explore the language, as well as kinship ties, value systems, numbers, foods, clothing, calligraphy, and love and friendship.
The program runs June 12 -25, 2011 and is FREE for 20 selected Wyoming high school students (entering grades 9 through 12). A $200 travel stipend is provided for all participating students.
Accommodations (men’s and women’s) are in the UW residence halls, with bilingual chaperones in residence. Meals will be provided at Washakie Center cafeteria, or by the group during field trips away from the UW campus.
