Lottery Class Application|College of Law

Lottery and Application Procedures

Lottery classes are those which have limited enrollment and therefore students must sign up for a lottery to enroll.  Enrollment is not guaranteed.

The following spring classes have limited enrollments subject to lottery:

  • Alternate Dispute Resolution – Limited to 16 students, determined by lottery. Priority is given to 3rd year students.
  • Trial Practice – Limited to 16 students, determined by lottery. Priority is given to 3rd year students.

Policy on Signing Up For the Lottery

The lottery sign-up sheets will be available in the Front Office. Only those students who sign the lottery sheets by the deadline will be eligible for a seat in a lottery class, should the class be oversubscribed.

You may sign up for more than one lottery class. HOWEVER, if you sign up for more than one lottery class, you need to indicate which is your first, second, third, etc., choice. You must rank and use each numerical rank only once. If you sign up for only one lottery class, rank it as "one." At the close of the lottery, all names on the lotteries for each class, with the accompanying student rankings, will be randomly sorted. Classes will then be filled by going in order from the top of the randomly sorted list to the bottom, starting with the people at the top of the list who have ranked the particular class as a "one," followed by those on the list who rank the class as a "two." If a class subject to lottery does not fill, all students indicating an interest in that class will be allowed into the undersubscribed class. A person who is chosen by lottery for a full class, but who also indicates an interest in an undersubscribed lottery class, will be allowed into both classes. A wait list using the same ordering system will be created for students who have signed the lottery but who are not chosen to be in the class in the initial selection. As students initially selected decide to drop the course, we will notify the next student on the wait list.

Please sign your names and rankings on the lottery sheet in pen, not pencil. If you wish to make a change before the lottery closes, please have one of the front office staff initial the change for you.
