Student Clinic Director: Jesselyn Burroughs

I was born and raised in rural Huntley, Wyoming, where I developed an appreciation for the uniqueness of rural America. I attended the University of Wyoming for my undergraduate degree in Social Sciences, with an emphasis in psychology and sociology.

Before attending the College of Law, I was an academic advisor and working towards a master's in higher education administration, while helping undergraduate students navigate academic decisions and college life. My time working as an academic advisor, paired with my undergraduate education, piqued my interest in the practice of law.

My passion for helping others motivated me to attend the University of Wyoming College of Law, where I had the opportunity to interview for the Family and Child Legal Advocacy Clinic 2L legal assistant position. I immediately fell in love with the important work this clinic does for families, children, and victims of domestic violence who are in need of legal resources in Wyoming.

Working alongside fellow student attorneys has been an absolute privilege. The hands-on learning the legal clinics provide is rare to find at a law school. The guidance and mentorship of our Faculty Director, Professor Dona Playton, is priceless, and it has been an absolute honor and joy to work for her.

While in law school, I have served as the marshal of the Bloom Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, and a member of Beyond the Law Club. I also was honored to be named the Woman of the Month by the Women’s Law Forum in March of 2023, and I am currently serving as the student body representative for the College of Law Dean search committee.

I hope to continue working in the State of Wyoming after graduation, and ideally in the realm of family law or estate planning.
