The juror for the 34th annual exhibition, Jennifer Garner, considers one of the many
works submitted by UW students.
The University of Wyoming Art Museum will present the 34th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition beginning with the opening reception at 6 p.m. and announcement of awards at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30.
The exhibition will be on view at the UW Art Museum through Feb. 14. Jennifer Garner, assistant professor, director, and curator of the Center for Visual Arts, Metropolitan State College of Denver, is the juror.
"This exhibition is a highlight of the museum's exhibition program every year," says Susan Moldenhauer, UW Art Museum director and chief curator. "In addition to providing a professional art exhibition experience, the exhibition celebrates the creative expression of UW's students."
The exhibition is open to anyone enrolled during the 2008-2009 academic year. Students whose artwork is selected are eligible for cash and purchase awards.
A gallery walk-through of the award-winning works is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m.
Artwork that was not selected is on view in the Fine Arts Building UP Gallery in the annual Salon de Refuses. Organized by the Student Art League, the UP Gallery exhibition continues through Jan. 31.
Cash awards include the Ann Simpson and Family Award, the Lisa Lewis Dubois Student Exhibition Award, the FMC Honors Award, the First Interstate Honors Award, the Margaret Art Award for Excellence, Jacque Buchanan Graphic Arts Award, the National Advisory Board Award, the UW A&S Dean's Office Award, the UW Student Art League Award, and the University of Wyoming Art Museum Awards.
Purchase awards will include the Joe C. Tull Memorial Purchase Award in Printmaking and Photography and those from the UW President's Office, UW Office of Academic Affairs, UW Office of Student Affairs, UW Division of Administration, UW Libraries, UW College of Health Sciences, the UW Outreach School, the Murdock/UW College of Law Purchase Award, and UW College of Engineering and Applied Science. Purchase and cash awards will be announced at the opening.
"Imagine learning from the masters" is a guiding principle of the UW Art Museum's programs. The museum is located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive. The museum and store are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free.
