The University of Wyoming encourages students, faculty and staff to observe Constitution Day, the annual federal observance that recognizes the ratification of the United States Constitution.
Constitution Day is observed each year on Sept. 17, the day the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the nation's founding document in 1787. Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison and George Washington were among the 39 delegates from the original 13 colonies who signed the Constitution.
Constitution Day caps a week at UW that began Monday with a university-sponsored freedom of speech forum that included four presenters who urged that public universities must remain neutral in allowing speakers -- even those deemed controversial -- on campus.
