Colorado musician Megan Burtt will perform a free concert from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the University of Wyoming Simpson Plaza.
Burtt's performance is part of the summer series that features live music every Wednesday in Simpson Plaza.
Music has been a part of Burtt's life ever since she experimented with melodies on her grandmother's piano at age 6. Burtt spent hours listening and practicing on the guitar while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston.
She absorbed cultures and listened to stories of people around the world as she explored South America, Africa and Asia. Her time in the South was stopped by a life-threatening illness, and her recovery brought her home to Colorado. With a clean bill of health and a gratitude for the journey, Burtt put pen to paper for her debut record "If It Ain't Love." She wanted to learn the blues, so she moved to Mississippi to let her soul experience its roots.
"Burtt creates songs perfectly in line with what you'd expect to hear between Ingrid Michaelson and Norah Jones," says Westword Magazine.
In 2010, Burtt was selected as a top 100 unsigned band for Music Connection Magazine, and the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival named her as its "Songwriter of the Year."
"Both in her performance and her writing it is evident that she is digging well past the surface to understand the ebbs and flows of the most basic human emotions," says James Kenly of Horizons Management.
Kenly says Burtt's pursuit of honesty helps distinguish her as a folk/pop songstress.
