Texas band The Lonesome Heroes will perform a free concert from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the University of Wyoming Simpson Plaza.

Proclaimed as "rewriting the rules of alt country" by the Austin Chronicle, The Lonesome Heroes have emerged as a singular talent from Austin's music scene. Songwriters Rich Russell and Landry McMeans founded the group in 2005. The band has performed in 27 states.

"McMeans' lilting voice, meshed with Russell's drier vocals, provides a multilayered nest of acoustic guitar, reverb-laden steel and atmospheric sounds," the Austin Chronicle adds. They have taken country music to a different place by adding a psychedelic-indie edge.

"The core of what we do still sounds like what country music used to do," says Russell. "We just added a little indie sound sphere over that, and it felt right."

The Lonesome Heroes recently released their latest album, "Daydream Western." For more information and music visit www.thelonesomeheroes.com.

The concert series is sponsored by the Campus Activities Center Summer Programs. Individuals needing assistance to attend this event can contact the CAC at 766-6340.
