Kim Zafft looks forward to meeting the challenges of her new position as director for Region 13 of the Association of College Unions International.

Region 13 represents union and student activities professionals at 28 colleges and universities in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

"The ACUI community is an excellent resource for learning about the latest trends, discussing common issues or to simply share ideas about union operations and activities," says Zafft, Wyoming Union associate director for operations. "Being involved in ACUI has helped me grow professionally and helped me better serve UW students."

She emphasizes that students are beneficiaries of UW's involvement in the organization.

"Many UW students have also benefited through their involvement on the leadership team and through attendance at regional and national conferences" Zafft notes. "Several students have had the opportunity to present at regional conferences."

Zafft has been a member of the Region 13 leadership team since 2006, when she served on the conference planning team and organized the educational sessions for the conference that was held in Jackson. She also served as the associate director, as an education council coordinator for facilities and operations and as a member of the committee that helps elect the ACUI Board of Trustees.

Founded in 1914, ACUI is a nonprofit educational organization that brings together college union and student activities professionals from hundreds of schools in seven countries. Its members are students and administrators working to build campus community. ACUI enriches them all through education, advocacy and the delivery of services.

A UW employee since 1997, Zafft worked as the UW Catering manager, Union events coordinator, assistant director of involvement (overseeing the Campus Activities Center and Center for Volunteer Service) before assuming her current position in 2006.

"I'm excited to serve as the regional director and to continue the region's outstanding work in supporting union and activities professionals and students," Zafft says.
