The Plaza Diane Community Center for the Arts in Powell will feature a free exhibition of works by University of Wyoming painting Professor Ricki Klages through October 17.
Head of the UW Department of Art and Art History, Klages references shrines and significant spiritual way stations in Italy, and depicts the ruins of both ancient and modern houses.
“Using a mix of straightforward landscape representation, and intensive observation, my paintings incorporate elements of still life and the landscape that connect in the house-shaped frames and suggest something out of the ordinary, even when depicting exceptionally ordinary things,” Klages says.
An “army brat” born in Germany, Klages received her BFA degree from the University of Arizona, and her M.A. and MFA degrees in painting and drawing, both from the University of New Mexico.
Since 1984, Klages’ paintings have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. She has served as head of the UW art department since 2006.
