University of Wyoming Calendar for Feb. 3

These are among the activities scheduled Feb. 3-9 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Feb. 3-Friday, Feb. 7 -- Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Dialogue (MLK DOD) events take place at various campus locations. Events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Feb. 4, 8 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. Boise State University, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Wednesday, Feb. 5, 12:10-12:50 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through. Attendees should meet in the entrance hall for a walk-through of the Pat Guthrie Teaching Gallery Exhibition. Lunch will be provided. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 5, 6 p.m. -- UW’s WWAMI Medical Education Program, in collaboration with Ivinson Memorial Hospital, will offer a “Stop the Bleed” class in the UW College of Health Sciences Building, Room 459. “Stop the Bleed” is a national awareness campaign intended to encourage bystanders to become trained and equipped to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. Registration is free.

Wednesday, Feb. 5, 7:30 p.m. -- Piano Battle, a piano duo that goes head-to-head onstage, will open the UW Presents spring season. The performance will take place in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $15 for the public; $12 for senior citizens, and UW faculty and staff; and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Thursday, Feb. 6, 6 p.m. -- The UW College of Law Centennial Celebration Speaker Series presents Jerry Parkinson, a UW professor emeritus in the college. He will discuss his new book, “Infractions: Rule Violations, Unethical Conduct, and Enforcement in the NCAA,” in the UW College of Law Building, Room 178. A reception will take place at 6 p.m., and Parkinson’s presentation will be at 7 p.m. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 6, 7 p.m. -- Actor Mark Willis, a former UW football player and a UW graduate, will give the keynote address for MLK DOD in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 6, 7 p.m. -- Cowboy wrestling vs. Fresno State, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Thursday, Feb. 6, 8 p.m. -- Keenan The First will perform in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union, as part of MLK DOD events. The performer is Keenan Montgomery, a former UW football player and a UW graduate. Free.

Friday, Feb. 7, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. -- As part of Black History Month events at UW, a Black History Conference will take place in Coe Library, Room 506. Free.

Friday, Feb. 7, 9 a.m. -- The UW College of Business Sandberg Speaker Series presents Kenny Polcari, a veteran equities trader and a CNBC exclusive market analyst. He will discuss “A Walk Down Wall St.” in the UW College of Business Building auditorium. A reception will follow. Free.

Friday, Feb. 7, noon -- The UW School of Energy Resources Distinguished Speaker Series presents Rick Honaker, a professor of mining engineering at the University of Kentucky. His talk will take place in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Free.

Friday, Feb. 7, 12:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of History and American Studies presents Maija Devine, author of “The Voices of Heaven,” an autobiographical memoir. She will discuss “The Korean War: Personal Stories” at the Cooper House. Free.

Friday, Feb. 7, 4:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology Spring Seminar Series presents Jessica Nelson, an assistant professor in the UW School of Culture, Gender and Social Justice. She will discuss “Cowboys, Indians and Country Bumpkins: Race, Place and Whitening in the Language of Brazilian Online Jokes” in the Anthropology Building, Room 150. Free.

Friday, Feb. 7, 6 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Black Panther” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Feb. 7, 8 p.m. -- The UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium presents “You Are a Star” in the Physical Sciences Building basement. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for non-students. Tickets for children under age 5 are free. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/planetarium.

Friday, Feb. 7, 9 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Us” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Saturday, Feb. 8, 2 p.m. -- The UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium presents “Two Small Pieces of Glass” and “Dawn of the Space Age,” two full-dome movies, in the Physical Sciences Building basement. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for non-students. Tickets for children under age 5 are free.
