Yuja Selected as UW’s New Video Recording and Storage Tool

The University of Wyoming has partnered with Yuja to serve as its video management tool to further integrate faculty, student and staff-generated videos into learning experiences and work projects.

The current solution, VidGrid, will be available during the fall semester and overlap with Yuja access to ensure a smooth transition.

Video Creation and Storage for Faculty, Students and Staff

Faculty -- Yuja will be the video creation, screen capture and video hosting platform and, in time, will enhance the in-person lecture capture process to efficiently share lectures to students (more to come as details become available).

Students -- Faculty may ask you to send a video response to a specific discussion question, and Yuja is a great way to record it. Want to send a step-by-step walk-through on how you completed an assignment? Yuja. Need to share something with project members who aren’t all available for a chat? You guessed it: Yuja makes it easy.

Staff -- While text-based guides are useful, more and more people watch videos on how to accomplish varying tasks -- think about the times you’ve YouTubed how to fix something rather than paging through user manuals. When you need to communicate with multiple people or expect to receive a question multiple times, a video may save time.

Access and Download

In WyoCourses -- Yuja is available now in course shells with two ways to access it: 1) While in edit mode in any text box, click the Yuja logo (click the plug-in icon, then “View All” if it is not visible); and 2) in the left navigation bar, click “Settings,” then “Navigation” if it is not visible). All faculty should access Yuja for the first time from within WyoCourses to ensure they are designated as faculty and not as students.

On the Web -- In case you only plan to use Yuja once or are on a public computer, you can access your Yuja account on the web. In the “Login Using” box, select “University of Wyoming Single Sign-On.”

Downloaded installation -- The downloaded version of Yuja has advanced functionality, so it is recommended to install it on your computer instead of using the web version. To download in WyoCourses, open Yuja in the left menu, click “Record Content,” and click the “Download and Install” option. To download it in your Yuja account, access your Yuja account, click the “My Account” button in the top menu, then click “My Account”; click the “Downloads” button in the left menu; and choose your preferred option.

Training

Yuja is easy to learn, but clicking around and attempting recordings will help you become comfortable using the tool. Additionally, visit Yuja self-help tutorials, the Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning Knowledge Base, and UW introductory and advanced training sessions.

Migration, Recordings and Existing Links

On Sept. 15, all existing VidGrid content will be migrated into Yuja over a period of weeks. Content will remain in VidGrid and linked in courses during the fall semester. Recordings made after Sept. 15 will not be migrated to Yuja, so new video creation should occur in Yuja. After the migration is complete, links embedded in courses will be automatically updated to link to your Yuja account where all video content will reside.
