Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation Sept. 29 at UW

Faculty, staff, students and members of the public are invited to the 2023 Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation Friday, Sept. 29, at 3 p.m. in the University of Wyoming College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

The Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation is a well-established tradition in the College of Arts and Sciences to celebrate undergraduate success. Specifically, the event will honor undergraduate students on the college’s 2022-23 honor rolls.

A reception will be held immediately following the Honors Convocation in the lobby of the College of Arts and Sciences Building. The event is free and open to the public. To RSVP, visit www.uwyo.edu/as/.

This year’s keynote speaker is UW Board of Trustees member Michelle Sullivan, of Sheridan, director of the Wyoming Afterschool Alliance. She has served as a member and former chair of the Wyoming State Board of Education and a commissioner for Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources. Appointed to UW’s Board of Trustees in 2015, she serves as a trustee on several philanthropic foundations, including the Homer and Mildred Scott Foundation.

Sullivan holds a master’s degree in mind, brain and education from Harvard University. She was a Kellogg National Fellow and a Loeb Fellow at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in 1994. She graduated from Colorado College, where she received an honorary doctorate in 1994.

The program also will feature student speakers Grant Dillivan, of Powell, and Veronica Garcia, of Casper, as well as performances by UW theater and dance students and men’s a cappella group the Happy Jacks.

Dillivan began school at UW in 2020. He is majoring in criminal justice and psychology, with minors in honors and sociology. He works as a Cowboy Coach student peer mentor in the Student Success and Graduation Hub and soon will start as a SOAR Mentor for the Honors College. He is president of the Criminal Justice Club, a member of the Psi Chi chapter and an intramural flag football participant.

Garcia is a senior at UW majoring in international studies, with minors in statistics, Japanese and honors. She received an associate degree in psychology from Casper College. In summer 2022, Garcia was selected as a McNair Scholar at UW.
