UW’s 10th Annual The Big Event Set Oct. 14

The University of Wyoming’s 10th annual The Big Event -- a student volunteer service project in the Laramie community -- will take place Saturday, Oct. 14.

Sponsored by UW’s Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) office, The Big Event promotes campus and community unity through service-oriented activities. UW students come together for one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community. Student volunteers help with various projects that can be large or small, such as exterior painting and yardwork.

Community members can register projects for student volunteers through the job request form found at www.uwyo.edu/bigevent or by calling the SLCE office at (307) 766-3117. They can submit job requests through Sunday, Sept. 24, or when the capacity for job requests is reached. Those who submit a job request will be contacted by a SLCE staff member or volunteer to perform a site check before the job request is accepted.

The Big Event was founded at Texas A&M University in 1982 and has expanded to more than 100 schools nationwide. UW’s first The Big Event was in fall 2013. More than 300 student volunteers are expected to participate in the event this fall.
