Cheetah Conservation Fund Leader to Speak at UW Oct. 19

One of the world’s leading experts on cheetah conservation is scheduled to speak Thursday, Oct. 19, at the University of Wyoming. The program is free and open to the public.

Laurie Marker, executive director of the Cheetah Conservation Fund, will present “Make the Wild a Better Place” at 4:30 p.m. in Room 138 of the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center. Her appearance is hosted by UW’s Global Engagement Office.

Marker is the recipient of the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, the Tech Museum’s Intel Environmental Prize, the Explorers Club President’s Award for Conservation and the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Technology Pioneer Award, among many others. She was named a Hero for the Planet by Time magazine and has been featured in Smithsonian Magazine and National Geographic. She has appeared on numerous television shows, including “The Tonight Show,” “Good Morning America” and the “Today” show.

There will be a reception and book sale after the talk.

The Cheetah Conservation Fund celebrates its 33rd anniversary this year, making it the longest running and most successful cheetah conservation organization.
