‘Navigating a Dementia Diagnosis’ Topic of UW Program

“Navigating a Dementia Diagnosis” is the topic of the latest Wyoming Dementia Together (WDT) program Wednesday, Oct. 4.

WDT is a statewide, nonprofit caregiver network operating through the University of Wyoming’s Wyoming Center on Aging (WyCOA). WDT meets by Zoom call every other Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Programs feature guest speakers and allow time for interaction from those who attend online.

Dr. Tabitha Thrasher, of Casper, will discuss, in depth, the program’s topic and will answer questions from the online participants. She is a graduate of Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine and served her residency with UW’s Family Medicine Residency Program. She is certified in geriatric medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and is affiliated with Banner Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

“We are grateful to have Dr. Thrasher with us. She is well known throughout the region for her knowledge and expertise in the subject of elder care, and for her kindness, her great compassion and her personal touch with each of her patients,” says Sabine Schenck, WyCOA’s program manager. “She is very easy to learn from, and we believe all caregivers of persons living with dementia would benefit by joining us for her presentation.”

Caregivers from throughout Wyoming and surrounding states have benefited from the WDT programs. Representatives of several out-of-state universities also attend the calls to gather ideas for their own dementia-related support services.

WDT includes dementia care professionals, licensed clinical social workers, physical and occupational therapists, and caregivers themselves. WDT began meeting in fall 2020 and has since been offering online programming assistance.

For information about registering for Zoom calls and the other free services offered by WDT, call WyCOA at (307) 766-2829 or email wycoa@uwyo.edu.
