Karen Kemmerer, a retired vice president of business communications systems at AT&T and Lucent Technologies, will give a free public talk Monday, Oct. 16, as part of the University of Wyoming College of Business Speaker Series.

She will speak from noon-1:15 p.m. in Room 123 in the UW College of Business Building in a fireside chat format with Anne Alexander, College of Business assistant dean. The event includes a question-and-answer session, and sandwiches will be available for attendees.

Kemmerer worked in marketing, sales, and profit and loss management positions. Her accomplishments included designing the structure for AT&T’s first sales force upon divestiture and bringing voicemail and digital networking to business customers in the 1980s. She also managed the $5 billion profit and loss of business communications equipment, including PBX phone systems, call center equipment and speech recognition technology; the transition of Lucent’s technology to Voice over Internet Protocol; and the Lucent sales team for its top 1,000 global accounts.

“We are delighted to be hosting Karen Kemmerer as part of this year’s College of Business Speaker Series,” says Scott Beaulier, dean of the College of Business. “Karen’s distinguished career in the private sector, combined with her engagement with the state of Wyoming and passion for free speech on campuses, makes her a compelling guest for our program.”

Kemmerer earned her MBA from New York University.

The UW College of Business Speaker Series is made possible through a generous gift from the Dimitrios Smyrnios family. For a full list of speakers for the 2023-24 series, go here.
