The University of Wyoming’s Buchanan Center Special Events presents Trinity Irish Dance Company Friday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

Tickets are $16 for the public, $13 for senior citizens and $8 for students. A nominal processing fee will be charged for each ticket. To purchase tickets, visit the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984.

The company’s performance will celebrate founding Artistic Director Mark Howard’s unique vision to fuse vibrant Irish traditions with ever-evolving American innovation.

Founded in 1990, Trinity Irish Dance Company was the birthplace of progressive Irish dance, an inventive movement genre that significantly changed the direction and scope of the art form, leading directly to commercial productions such as “Riverdance.”

By using Irish dance as an instrument and a metaphor, Trinity Irish Dance Company redefines the medium with passion, flair and precision. With a unique blend of uncompromising power and grace, the company sends a consistent message of female empowerment with a repertory that has elevated the art form for nearly three decades.

The company is accompanied by a live band featuring Christopher Devlin, a Chicago-based musician, on guitar and vocals; Jake James, a two-time All-Ireland fiddle champion, bódhran player and dancer, on fiddle and bódhran; Brendan O’Shea, a New York City-based Irish singer-songwriter and composer, on guitar and vocals; and Steven Rutledge, a Portland-born, Chicago-based freelance musician and music instructor, on percussion.

Considered an American treasure by critics and enthusiasts worldwide, Trinity Irish Dance Company has performed sold-out tours in Europe, Asia and North America. The company has performed in numerous venues, including New York City’s The Joyce Theater; Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center; Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre; Ottawa’s National Arts Centre; and Tokyo’s Orchard Hall.
