UW Department of Music Presents Guest Pianist Nov. 7

The University of Wyoming Department of Music will host guest pianist Kenneth Hamilton for a recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

Hamilton will perform works by Frédéric Chopin, Ronald Stevenson and Franz Liszt. The recital is free and open to the public.

Hamilton is well known as a concert pianist, recording artist and writer. His recordings have attracted both critical acclaim and large audiences worldwide. His bestselling “After the Golden Age: Romantic Pianism and Modern Performance” (Oxford University Press) is one of the most internationally influential books on classical music of recent decades.

He has appeared frequently on radio and television in Britain, the U.S., Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Turkey, Singapore, Thailand, China and Russia. He is a familiar artist on BBC Radio 3, Radio 4 and the World Service.

Hamilton also is a popular artist online. His “Preludes to Chopin” has been streamed nearly a million times, and “More Preludes to Chopin” was one of Spotify’s “Best Classical New Releases.”

Hamilton serves as senior university dean for international partnerships at Cardiff University in Wales, United Kingdom. He previously served as head of the university’s School of Music. Additionally, Hamilton has been a visiting artist and a distinguished guest professor at many institutions worldwide, including the Franz Liszt Academy in Hungary and the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia.

A meet and greet with Hamilton will be at 2:30 p.m. by Encore Café, located near the Performing Arts box office.
