Sohap Ensemble to Perform Jan. 27 at UW

Sohap Ensemble will give a free public performance at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, in the University of Wyoming’s Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

Sohap Ensemble will present new classical music for its “Dusk ’til Dawn” performance. The program features core ensemble members cellist Chas Barnard and soprano Sabina Balsamo; and guest pianist Barbara Noyes.

The concert will explore the intricate relationship between the beauty of the human experience and the relentless march of time. Through a curated selection of compositions by living composers, the ensemble invites the audience to “be present for all of the small, joyful moments that could pass you by unnoticed.”

“Dusk ’til Dawn” will feature unrecorded works by renowned composers Griffin Candey, Tom Cipullo and Steven Mark Kohn as well as fresh interpretations of pieces by Valerie Capers, Scott Gendel and Errollyn Wallen.

Featured in the performance will be “Honey,” two songs for soprano and cello written by Candey. The piece was written exclusively for Sohap Ensemble.

The performance will be complemented by text projections onstage and information about the pieces between sets, providing an immersive experience for the audience.
