UW College of Business Speaker Series Features Fraud Expert

The University of Wyoming College of Business will host Kelly Richmond Pope, a nationally known expert on fraud, for a public talk Thursday, Feb. 22, from 3-4:30 p.m. in the college’s Scarlett Auditorium.

Richmond Pope will give a presentation titled “White Collar Crime, Fraud and Forensic Accounting.” The talk, part of the College of Business Speaker Series, is free and open to the public. The event also will be livestreamed at https://wyocast.uwyo.edu/WyoCast/Play/0f8231c45f3c4f4fad85336095bfd5821d.

Richmond Pope is a professor in the School of Accountancy and MIS at DePaul University, where she teaches forensic accounting, managerial accounting, financial accounting and ethical leadership.

She has dedicated her career to confronting the challenges of white-collar crime and is a co-host of the podcast “True Crime” with Kathy Lake and Kelly Pope on WGN Radio. She is the author of “Fool Me Once: Scams, Stories, and Secrets from the Trillion Dollar Fraud Industry.” The book will be available for sale at the University Store and at the Feb. 22 event.

“We are thrilled to be hosting Kelly Richmond Pope as part of this year’s College of Business Speaker Series,” says Scott Beaulier, the H.A. “Dave” True Jr. Family Dean of UW’s College of Business. “Her expertise on ethical leadership and fraud, combined with her talents and contributions as an author, filmmaker and podcaster, makes her a compelling guest for our campus.”

Richmond Pope’s visit is sponsored, in part, by the UW Center for Principles-Based Leadership and Ethics and the Department of Accounting and Finance.

“Dr. Pope’s research in financial fraud and understanding people’s motivation behind it is indispensable for both individuals and financial experts,” says Mitchell Oler, chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance. “I encourage students in the College of Business and, likewise, extend an invitation to the general public to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to hear her.”

The College of Business Speaker Series is made possible thanks to a generous gift from the Dimitrios Smyrnios family. The full list of speakers in the 2023-24 series can be found online here.
