‘UW in Your Community’ Event Jan. 29 in Cheyenne

Ed Seidel and Joe SchafferMembers of the public will learn about the University of Wyoming’s collaborations with Laramie County Community College (LCCC), and UW alumni will connect with their alma mater during a “UW in Your Community” gathering Monday, Jan. 29, in Cheyenne.

The public is invited to the event from 5-7 p.m. at the ANB Bank Leadership Center in LCCC’s Clay Pathfinder Building. Free appetizers will be served, and there will be a cash bar.

UW President Ed Seidel and LCCC President Joe Schaffer will be in attendance and speak during a brief program, highlighting collaborative efforts to prepare students for the modern economy and boost entrepreneurism and the state’s economy.

Among the collaborations to be highlighted are programs in business, entrepreneurship and manufacturing. Leaders of those programs will give brief updates.

Additionally, UW Extension’s staff in Laramie County will discuss how the Cent$ible Nutrition Program is addressing food insecurity, in conjunction with first lady Jennie Gordon’s Grow a Little Extra initiative; how the 4-H program teaches children life skills; and how the Community Vitality and Health Program is increasing the capacity of Laramie County residents to improve their communities.

And current UW students from Laramie County -- including Wyatt Olivas, a Cheyenne East High School graduate who received an excused absence letter from Pope Francis after attending the Catholic Church’s recent Synod on Synodality at the Vatican in Rome -- will share their experiences at UW.

During the day before the Jan. 29 evening event, Seidel, a UW faculty member and the current UW students from Laramie County are scheduled to speak to students during assemblies at Central, East and South high schools.

The Laramie County gathering is the 13th in a series of “UW in Your Community” gatherings planned around the state.

“This will be a great opportunity for community members to interact with President Seidel, President Schaffer and others from UW and LCCC; learn about exciting initiatives for students and the state; and see some of the collaborative work UW is doing with local partners,” says Chad Baldwin, UW’s associate vice president for marketing and communications. “UW alumni and everyone across Laramie County are invited for what will be a fun evening.”
