UW Program Schedules Upcoming Dementia-Related Topics

Physical safety for dementia patients, ideas for meaningful leisure time, dementia and its diagnosis, dignity in dementia care, and coping with grief and loss are among subjects that will be covered through a Wyoming Center on Aging (WyCOA)-sponsored program at the University of Wyoming.

Wyoming Dementia Together (WDT) has scheduled several sessions for the first half of the new year beginning later this month. The WyCOA-sponsored WDT group -- which includes dementia care professionals, licensed clinical social workers, physical and occupational therapists, and caregivers -- collaborates to provide confidential information and support, free of cost, to those whose loved ones are living with dementia.

WDT meets via Zoom every other Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. throughout the year. Programs feature a guest speaker and allow time for interaction from those who attend online. Caregivers from throughout Wyoming and surrounding states have benefited from the sessions.

The programs, listed by date and topic, are:

-- Feb. 14: “The Healing Power of Recollection.”

-- Feb. 28: “Meaningful Leisure Time: Ideas for You and Your Loved One.”

-- March 13: “Creating Peaceful Space.”

-- March 27: “Through the Eyes of Dementia.”

-- April 10: “Dementias and Diagnosis.”

-- April 24: “Dignity in Dementia Care.”

-- May 8: “Care Partner Companions: Grief, Loss, Sorrow.”

-- May 22: “Past Trauma and Dementia.”

-- June 5: “Dementia Specific Technology: Safety and Adaptation.”

-- June 19: “Dementia Continuum of Care Options.”
