UW and Wyoming SBDC Network to Host Veteran-Owned Business Lunch Workshop in Sheridan March 7

Small-business owners will have the opportunity to learn how to get a first small-business loan request approved Thursday, March 7.

Multiple speakers, including P.J. Burns, will lead a Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network workshop titled “March into Business: Veteran-Owned Business and Networking Lunch” from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Sheridan Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center auditorium, located at 1898 Fort Road. The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

The workshop, co-sponsored by the U.S. SBA Veterans Business Outreach Center and VA Vocational Rehabilitation, will focus on leveling up small-business knowledge for veterans. Whether veterans are about to launch their small businesses or are looking to learn how to run their current businesses more efficiently, this event will feature several workshops and a networking lunch. 

Burns is the Wyoming SBDC Network regional director for Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan and Weston counties. She has spent the majority of her career advising and advocating for small businesses in her roles at chambers of commerce and economic development organizations. She has a background in marketing, human resources, strategic planning, leadership and management.

Julie Holewa, psychosocial rehabilitation supervisor at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Sheridan; Drew James, veterans business development specialist for the Wyoming district office of the U.S. SBA; and Rick Brown, director of the Big Sky Veterans Business Outreach Center in Billings, Mont., are other speakers.
