    UW in the News

State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:

Wyoming rural health care received a major boost with a $13.9 million donation from the Helmsley Charitable Trust that will enable community-based clinics to afford state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment normally found only in urban centers. Cowboy State Daily noted that the grant includes $1.6 million to train a sonography workforce, an initiative that will be led by Jacob Warren, a UW College of Health Sciences professor. Cap City News and The Laramie Boomerang published similar articles.

A post on the Energy Central website noted that University of Texas-Austin researchers are collaborating with UW School of Energy Resources colleagues on research that involves using a natural catalyst to generate hydrogen gas from iron-rich rocks. The project is funded by a U.S. Department of Energy grant.

Cowboy State Daily featured the pioneering work of former UW faculty member Victor Ryan, a nuclear chemist who brought a nuclear reactor to UW in the 1960s. Ryan established UW’s nuclear research program.

Max Gilbraith, UW’s Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium coordinator, spoke with Bigfoot99 Radio, in Saratoga, about April’s solar eclipse. Gilbraith said the moon would cover roughly half of the sun that will be visible in the area.

Cowboy State Daily interviewed Gilbraith for an article on a once-in-a-lifetime nova explosion that will occur this spring or summer. Gilbraith provided comments for another Cowboy State Daily article titled “Beginning of Spring Is the Start of Milky Way Season & Wyoming Is Prime Viewing.”

Wyoming Public Radio reported on the UW Symphony Orchestra’s (UWSO) recent trip to Europe. The UWSO performed concerts in France and Spain.

UW law Professor Tara Righetti was the program chair for the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law’s recent Special Institute on Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage. South Texas College of Law Houston’s Harry L. Reed Oil & Gas Law Institute hosted the conference that drew participants from across the U.S., Norway and Germany, according to a news release published by The Southeast Texas Record, a publication that covers the state’s legal system.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle published UW’s release announcing that the university is extending its enrollment confirmation date from May 1 to June 1. UW has received nearly 6,000 first-year student applications for the coming fall semester.

The Laramie Boomerang published UW’s release announcing that Wyoming Dementia Together (WDT) will offer a variety of informative discussions focused on dementia care this spring. WDT is a statewide nonprofit caregiver network offered through UW’s Wyoming Center on Aging.

UW’s second annual High Altitude Bull Test and Sale will culminate in a field day at the Laramie Research and Extension Center Tuesday. Sheridan Media published UW’s release.

Northern Ag Network published UW’s release announcing that UW’s annual ram test will conclude with a public field day next month at the Laramie Research and Extension Center. The event will present results from the 140-day performance test and discuss how test results can be used to make selection decisions.

Tri-State Livestock News published UW’s release noting that UW Extension will offer artificial insemination workshops in Campbell and Fremont counties in May, followed by breeding days later that month.
