James Orr Willits Ethics Award

There will not be a competition for the Summer 2014 session. Please refer to the below guidelines for future reference and competitions.

FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS

Six awards of $3,000 each will be made to University of Wyoming students, at all academic levels, for summer projects in research or creative endeavor that involves a substantial ethics component.  The research can be conducted individually or collaboratively, under sponsorship and supervision of a faculty member.

The purpose of these awards is to encourage and assist students, in any discipline in the university, who are considering, beginning or in the midst of a research or creative activity, to include a substantial ethics component; preference will be given to projects which are:
1.    More concentrated on ethics;
2.    The ethics component is capable of completion in one summer;
3.    The student’s own project rather than a segment of faculty research.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. Students must be enrolled full-time, during the 2013 Spring Semester and enrolled for at least one credit hour during the 2013 Summer Semester.  Graduate students must be formally accepted in a University of Wyoming graduate program.

  2. Recipients are expected to work full time during the summer on their projects.

  3. Recipients must attend an introductory seminar at the beginning of the summer semester, Friday May 17th.  The seminar will be hosted by the Philosophy Department.
