Energy Research for Sustainability and Security
State-of-the-art research is a requirement for preserving and growing the value of Wyoming's energy resources while protecting the state's environmental treasures. UW's ability to seek and obtain outside funding is greatly enhanced by the state's commitment to provide competitively-awarded matching funds.
The School of Energy Resources (SER) oversees the Matching Grant Fund, the Clean Coal Technology Fund, Uranium Research Center and the GE/UW High Plains Gasification-Advanced Technology Center funding, Carbon Sequestration Fund, and Uranium Recovery Fund - all of which provide UW faculty a critical competitive advantage in capturing external funding for new research proposals in energy areas. These highly leveraged funds provide UW with excellent opportunities and facilities to compete in a broad spectrum of research endeavors across energy sectors important to the state - natural gas, petroleum, coal, uranium, wind, and solar.
In addition, Centers of Excellence have been formed under SER guidance to facilitate interdisciplinary research in program areas that are critical to advancing the state of the art in energy technology.
