Service Programs:

Our service programs are a great way to get involved and to help others.
Good Mule Logo

The Good Mule Project

The Good Mule Project is a student-led initiative to increase awareness of social and environmental justice issues, to encourage civic literacy and action, and to advance cross-cultural understanding at the University of Wyoming. The Good Mule Project empowers students with training, support, and inspiration needed to effectively use their passion and creativity to initiate acts of social and environmental good.
Alternate Breaks Logo

Alternative Breaks

UW’s Alternative Spring Break program, which involves students in community-based service projects both nationally and internationally that address a wide variety of social needs. Students spend their break working on issues as diverse as literacy, poverty, natural disaster relief, homelessness and preserving the environment.  Students consistently say their alternative spring break experience is one of the best in their lives.

National Service Days

Four days per year are dedicated as national days of service.  These days are opportunities for you to join fellow volunteers in Laramie and around the United States in the spirit of service.  Typically, we celebrate these events at the University of Wyoming with a large scale, one-day volunteer opportunity.  Each day is a great chance to help others, meet new people, and make a difference.

Make a Difference Day:
Saturday, October 27th- Spooky Sprint Canned Food Drive, 11am, Wyoming Union. Donations will benefit community agencies in Laramie including SAFE Project, the Laramie Soup Kitchen, and Interfaith Good Samaritan. Put together a team and compete for the most food collected and for the best costume! Lunch will be provided after the sprint.

Leadership Programs:

Our leadership programs offer students the opportunity to build their leadership skills.

MSLI Logo

Multicultural Student Leadership Initiative (MSLI)

MSLI is an involvement opportunity for students who support diversity and want to make a difference during their time at UW.  MSLI is dedicated to supporting students in their first year on campus by developing their leadership skills and building a supportive social network through mentoring.  MSLI promotes an environment where students can prepare for future leadership roles in campus organizations while also enhancing their overall academic success.

FYI Logo

First Year Institute (FYI)

FYI! is an intense, three-day and two-night leadership development experience hosted at an off-campus recreational venue.  The FYI! program is run by student faculty who are highly successful student leaders in their junior and senior years at UW. The FYI! faculty plan all aspects of the institute and facilitate the majority of the leadership development activities.  Participants in the program can expect to learn more about themselves as leaders, the numerous involvement opportunities at UW, and meet other first-year students at UW.  Community service is an integral part of leadership, and participants will complete a service project in order to apply what they are learning and deepen the meaning of their experience.
Women Leadership Logo

Women's Leadership

Each year, with the financial support of numerous campus departments, the Women's Leadership program selects a diverse group of undergraduate women to attend the AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders. Upon their return, conference goers plan and execute their own event to promote women's leadership at UW and around the state.

Leadership Development Series

The Service, Leadership & Community Engagement (SLCE) office offers the leadership series every semester to help UW students develop leadership skills. We want to help YOU make the most of your leadership skills and learn new ones. All of the sessions are interactive and many include guest speakers from here on campus.

Community Engagement Programs:

Our community engagement programs provide a chance to really become a part of something bigger.

Pokes Vote Logo

Pokes Vote

Pokes Vote is a non-partisan cooperative campaign at the University of Wyoming focused on maximizing student civic engagement and leadership development through voter education, registration, and turn-out. Pokes Vote is committed to honesty, fairness, and the relentless effort to get college-aged students engaged in their democratic community by voting.

AmeriCorps Logo

AmeriCorps

The Connecting Campus & Community AmeriCorps program is operated out of the UW SLCE Office. AmeriCorps is an opportunity to make a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you. It’s a chance to apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. AmeriCorps members receive a scholarship to help pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans. Some members may also receive a modest living allowance during their term of service.

Service-Learning

The Service-Learning program in the SLCE Office supports opportunities for connecting academic learning with service and reflection. The Service-Learning program offers training, funding, and resources for faculty members, staff, students, and community members to increase student achievement while meeting community needs.

SafeZone Logo

Safe Zone

Unlike more visible under-represented groups on campus, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning students and employees cannot be easily identified. Similarly, there is no easy method of identifying persons supportive of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons and issues. Safe Zone provides a way for supportive faculty, staff, and administrators within the University of Wyoming community to prominently and nonverbally illustrate that they are a safe contact for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered students and employees.

Volunteer Opportunities:

The Service, Leadership & Community Engagement Office (SLCE) works with numerous volunteer agencies on campus and in the community to plan events throughout the academic year. Some past events have included: fall and spring Volunteer Fairs, 911 Service Day, MLK Day of Service, and Earth Week.
