As a student in the program, you will choose to focus on a single field of science while gaining a broad understanding by taking courses across scientific disciplines. You can also select a major, a minor, or take elective courses to pursue additional endorsements on your future teaching license to increase your marketability.

Alongside science coursework, you will deep-dive into current and historical best practices in pedagogy and assessment while learning how to incorporate special education techniques, technology, and multicultural learning strategies into your teaching practice. Real-world classroom experience will allow you to practice classroom management skills and teaching methods to build confidence and expertise.

As an on-campus student in Laramie you will benefit from several opportunities to ensure your success in the secondary education bachelor’s program. UW also offers the B.A. in Secondary Biological Science Education in Casper, which allows you to complete the entire program and utilize resources at UW-Casper as an on-campus student.

The B.A. in Science Education is nationally recognized by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preperation (AAQEP). Those who complete the program will earn a B.A. in Secondary Education with an equivalent major in biology, chemistry, geology, physics, or environmental systems science and a specialization in secondary science. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to apply for your Wyoming teaching license to teach grades 6-12.

You can take advantage of alternative licensure pathways to get on the fast-track to becoming a teacher in Wyoming. UW’s Teaching Secondary Content Certificate will allow you to apply for your teaching license in as little as three semesters.
