Department of Secondary Education

College of Education

Education is a rewarding and challenging profession that is constantly changing.  Teachers have the opportunity to educate and nurture young adults to be lifelong learners, leaders, and responsible citizens.  Secondary education offers the unique chance for teachers to share their passion and expertise for a specific subject.  High-quality teachers are in demand all across the country, and our teacher program is nationally recognized.  Our professors work with students to refine teaching skills and build confidence in pedagogy and content knowledge.  We are extremely proud of our teacher education programs and of the graduates we produce to fill the classrooms in the public schools of Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain region, as well as schools across the country.  We strongly encourage students who may be interested in pursuing an education program to explore our secondary programs and to contact professors with any questions or concerns.

Current undergraduate programs include:

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION STATEMENT ON ELIMINATED PROGRAMS

Effective summer semester 2017, incoming and current University of Wyoming students will not be permitted to declare or to change their major to secondary Technical Education (EDIT). This program has been eliminated and the final cohort will have the opportunity to complete the student teaching requirement of their Bachelor of Science degree in spring semester, 2018.

After August 1st 2017, current University of Wyoming students will not be permitted to declare or to change their undergraduate major to secondary French, German, or Spanish Education (FRSE / GESE / SPSE) for approximately one year. In addition, no applicants will be admitted to the Post-Baccalaureate teacher education or Graduate Certificate – TSC programs in these content areas. During this period of time, we anticipate that the Modern Language Education program may undergo a number of changes. If the program continues, students wishing to pursue the re-structured version of the Modern Language Education program must still meet all of the College of Education admissions requirements (ACT/ SAT scores, UW GPA, background check, etc.) in order to do so. In the interim, we suggest that interested students consider declaring their degree in the French, German, or Spanish Bachelor of Arts programs available from the Department of Modern & Classical Languages in the UW College of Arts and Sciences(http://www.uwyo.edu/modlang/).
