Defrauding Drug and Alcohol Screens

Students Legal Services - ASUW

Drug Testing Information

As students begin looking for jobs, one criterion many employers are now more frequently requiring is a drug screening test (aka a pee test). There are many items on the market today that can make your urine look clean, and there is even a synthetic "clean" urine product. However, if you get caught trying to defraud the system, it is a crime. Your first offense is a misdemeanor punishable by no more than 6 months in jail, a fine of no more than $750, or both. Second or subsequent offenses are misdemeanors subject to punishment of at least 7 days and up to 6 months in jail, a fine of $750, or both. (See W.S. 6-3-614 for the Wyoming law).

Be assured that that if are convicted under this law, no Wyoming employer is likely to hire you and your reputation will be tarnished because even potential future employers can gain access to your criminal record and a conviction for trying to tamper with a drug test will remain on your record forever unless some type of deal was initially made with the State's prosecutors and approved by a judge.
