To ensure Wyoming has vibrant, innovative teachers for early childhood programs and its K-12 system, the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees established the UW Trustees Education Initiative (TEI) by resolution in 2014.
UW-E4® provides a framework that emphasizes four Es: career exploration, experiential learning for pre-service teachers, embedded practice in Wyoming school districts, and continued support during entry into the profession so students become preeminent educators for Wyoming and beyond.
The UW College of Education is implementing the Trustees Education Initiative with the following key innovations integrated into UW-E4.
Avatars to help develop skills
Mursion® augmented reality lets high school students, emerging pre-service teachers, and teacher leaders practice basic and complex teaching, coaching, leadership, and classroom management skills with avatars in a simulated environment.
Ethics training is integrated
The Ethical Educator Program ® is based on the national Model Code of Ethics for Educators. Responsibility to students, the school community, and the profession, as well as professional competence and responsible use of technology are interwoven throughout teacher training.
Early childhood education gets a boost
Wyoming Early Childhood Outreach Network (WYECON®) is supporting a network of early childhood educators and clinical sites in Wyoming. A bachelor's degree in early childhood education is also being developed.
Results get measured
The College of Education participates in the Common Indicators System® from Deans for Impact, a national consortium of top programs that use a common set of metrics to support innovation and drive excellence in educator preparation.
The UW Board of Trustees, the TEI Governing Board, and the College of Education recognize the Daniels Fund for its key role in the development of the University of Wyoming Trustees Education Initiative.
