What is the Associated Students of the Performing Arts (ASOPA)?

The Associated Students of the Performing Arts (ASOPA) wants to wish you a happy start to the semester and welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year!  ASOPA is a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) that strives to work with the Theatre and Dance Department to serve the students of the performing arts.    

MISSION STATEMENT: The Associated Students of the Performing Arts (ASOPA), being recognized by the University of Wyoming as a student organization, pursues the interests of its members in creating, rehearsing and performing quality theatrical and dance productions. The goal of ASOPA is to provide additional performance opportunities and learning experiences within the performing arts. By encouraging unity, communication, and student-driven projects (e.g., fundraisers and mentoring programs) members benefit in the academic and professional world.

What is happening with ASOPA this fall?

We wanted to alert you to some of the quickly approaching events that ASOPA is putting up.

Sunday, August 28th,  7:30 p.m., Black Box Studio Theatre: Ice Cream Social / ASOPA Information Night

This will be a great introduction to the year and allow ASOPA to present all the new things that are happening this year.  There will be free ice cream, new faces, and some bits of theatre and dance summer performances. Don't miss it!

This show will be in typical relay style, meaning that theatre and dance pieces will be created, put together, and presented within a 48-hour period. We need playwrights and choreographers, so come one come all!

There will be drawings on September 1 for both dance and theatre pieces. If you have questions how the really show works or want to create a piece, please contact an ASOPA cabinet member. All are encouraged to participate!

Poster Design for the Relay Plays

We need someone to design the poster for the relay show.  If you are interested, please contact an ASOPA Cabinet person ASAP. Thanks!

T-Shirt Design Contest! 

We are holding a design contest for the ASOPA t-shirts for this year. If you are interested, please sign up on the ASOPA board or contact Krina Turner.  There are rules! The designs will be due Friday, September 9th and winners will be announced the following Sunday meeting.  

How Can You Become an Active Member of ASOPA? 

There are numerous ways to become an active member of ASOPA, which will enrich your experience here at UW Theatre & Dance.  All of these will be described in detail at the Ice Cream Social! Attending this event is the first step towards becoming an Active Member. 

Keep your eyes peeled, as we will be sending out the New Points System and Constitution shortly.  Lastly, Check out the new ASOPA board in the Theatre and Dance Hallway.  It has a calendar of events, as well as many valuable pieces of information and new programs.  

Sunday Meetings

Every other Sunday Meeting is an Open Meeting for all ASOPA members.  This is the place where you may get questions answered or simply get involved with ASOPA. We encourage strongly each and everyone of you to take action and pride in this organization.  Together,r we can all make this organization a highly beneficial experience for each and every member. Your Officers need your voice and support in order to assure that ASOPA reaches its full potential.
