Casper Student Wins Summer Session Free Tuition Prize
April 9, 2008 — Kendra David of Casper won a semester of free tuition and fees in a drawing to promote the University of Wyoming's 2008 Summer Session.
Her name was drawn during the Summer Session Lunchtime Jam Wednesday in the Wyoming Union. UW football coach Joe Glenn was master of ceremonies. The jam offered drawings for prizes, including weekend getaways, mountain bikes and gift certificates.
David, who has a double major in psychology and biology, says she plans to take nine credit hours this summer to get ahead on her two majors.
"I'm a non-traditional student, and taking the courses this summer will allow me to graduate sooner," says David, a junior who currently is enrolled at both Casper College and the UW/Casper College Center. She will attend the Laramie campus this summer.
Several other UW students won prizes. Marteza Akbarabadi, a graduate student from Iran, won a mountain bike donated by Fine Edge. Heidi Ackerman of Laramie won a weekend getaway provided by Albany Lodge.
Three students received $100 gift certificates from the UW Bookstore: Amber Hammerschmidt and Timothy Hancock, both Laramie, and Bryce Barker, Rock Springs.
More than 400 courses, taught by some of UW's top faculty, are now offered during the summer. Courses last from one-12 weeks, and include unique experiences such as field courses, research opportunities and study abroad courses. A complete list of classes and requirements is available in the online Summer Bulletin at www.uwyo.edu/summer.
